Updating living room drapes

Mike had been forever saying that he hates our old fashioned ‘grandma type’ drapes.  I actually liked the formal look.  But after asking people to tell me their thoughts on the old drape treatment, pretty much everyone said, ‘what drapes? I thought you had a white wall.’  Ugh.

When Mike went to Chicago, the drapes became my latest project.  I decided to spend a whopping $40 max on my project.  I searched Linens and Things for their so called sales.  A new modern look would have cost me about $200.  Not good.

Next, my hero: craigslist.  I found a couple getting rid of not only their chocolate colored silk panels, but also a maine rod, hold backs, and all the hardward.

Next, I had auntie, Ben and Joe help me remove the beast.  It was a beast.  I reused the original curtains and Raquel let me have her old green, tan and wine colored sheers.  After some cleaning, sewing, and lots of muscle, it was done.It looks great and cost $25!
